Chapter 9 - The Final Judgment

Camille shrieked in agony and dropped her revolver as a bullet shattered her right shoulder.
She collapsed heavily to the floor, bleeding profusely onto the incredibly expensive Persian rug.
Massimo turned quickly toward the doorway, his eyes widening in complete and utter shock.
Carla stood there in her maid uniform, her hands shaking violently as she held a smoking, heavy-caliber pistol.
She had absolutely refused to hide in the safe room while the man who protected her daughter fought this war alone.
The two stunned capos quickly subdued the screaming Camille, kicking her dropped weapon far across the room.
Dean looked wildly around the library, realizing his entire stolen empire had crumbled to dust in mere seconds.
He lunged forward in a desperate, animalistic attempt to grab Camille's discarded revolver from the floor.
Massimo didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second.
He raised his own weapon flawlessly and fired a single, deafening shot.
The heavy bullet struck Dean perfectly in the center of his chest, stopping his desperate charge instantly.
Dean fell backward onto the marble, staring blankly at the painted ceiling as the life rapidly drained from his eyes.
The man who had orchestrated the brutal ambush and faked his brotherhood was finally dead.
Massimo slowly lowered his gun, letting out a long, deeply exhausted breath as the adrenaline faded.
The capos immediately bowed their heads in deep respect, realizing their boss was far stronger than ever before.
Massimo ordered them to clean up the bloody mess and drag Camille down to the basement for interrogation.
He walked slowly and purposefully over to Carla, completely ignoring the dull pain still lingering in his muscles.
He gently took the smoking gun from her trembling hands and tossed it onto the nearest armchair.
He told her softly that she had just saved his life, his cold gray eyes softening with genuine, profound emotion.
Carla finally burst into relieved tears, and Massimo pulled her securely into a tight, fiercely protective embrace.
The terrifying nightmare that had haunted the Rinaldi estate for six agonizing months was finally over.
He had successfully reclaimed his throne, his legs, and his absolute, undisputed power over the city.
