Chapter 10 - The Family We Choose

An elderly man in a sharp tailored suit stepped through the open front doors, flanked by police officers.

It was Massimo's trusted friend, the man he had texted days ago, arriving with the authorities.

The police quickly handcuffed Dean and Camille, dragging them out to the waiting squad cars.

Doctor Hale was found upstairs and carried out on a stretcher under heavy police guard.

Massimo slowly stood up, waving off the paramedics who rushed over to help him.

He walked painfully over to Carla and Nina, pulling them both into a tight, protective embrace.

"You are safe now, both of you," Massimo whispered, kissing the top of Nina's head.

Three months later, the Rinaldi estate was completely transformed by the bright spring sunlight.

Massimo stood on the patio without a wheelchair, his posture perfect and his strength fully returned.

Carla stood beside him, wearing a beautiful silk dress instead of a gray maid's uniform.

He gently reached out and held her hand, smiling as they watched Nina chase butterflies across the lush green lawn.

They had survived the ultimate betrayal and built a real family out of the ashes of the old empire.

Life was finally peaceful, joyful, and completely perfect.

Later that evening, Massimo walked into his newly renovated private office to pour a drink.

A plain black envelope was sitting squarely in the middle of his polished mahogany desk.

He sliced it open and pulled out a fresh, glossy photograph of Carla and Nina sleeping in their new beds.

Scrawled on the back in wet, crimson ink were the words, "The Bellandi family never forgets a debt."

Massimo stared at the photo as his private cell phone suddenly began to ring.
