Chapter 9 - The FBI Raid

I struggled against the heavy metal handcuffs as the corrupt police chief shoved me toward his cruiser.
My mother stood on the garden path, smiling in absolute triumph.
"I told you I have powerful friends, Mara," she taunted me as I was forced into the back of the police car.
They drove me straight to the downtown precinct and threw me into a holding cell.
The chief confiscated my hidden wire and gleefully crushed the recording device under his boot.
"Your little spy gadget will not save you now," he sneered through the iron bars.
"You are going to rot in prison while your mother takes full custody of those beautiful twins."
I sat on the cold steel bench, ignoring the pain in my healing pelvis.
I was not scared, because the chief had made one fatal miscalculation.
He thought Daniel and Vance were just local amateurs.
Three hours later, the heavy reinforced doors of the precinct holding area blew open.
A dozen heavily armed agents wearing navy blue windbreakers stormed into the room.
The letters FBI were printed boldly in bright yellow across their backs.
The corrupt police chief ran out of his office, his face turning pale with terror.
"What is the meaning of this?" the chief demanded.
The lead federal agent shoved a massive stack of warrants directly into the chief's chest.
"We have been building a RICO case against Apex Holdings for two years," the federal agent announced.
"Your bank accounts just flagged a massive wire transfer from one of their known shell companies."
Daniel stepped into the holding area right behind the federal agents.
He held up a backup digital recorder, grinning widely.
"Did you really think we would rely on a single local recording device?" Daniel mocked the police chief.
"The audio of the confession was broadcast live to a secure federal server."
The federal agents immediately placed the police chief in handcuffs.
One of the agents unlocked my cell and respectfully helped me to my feet.
"We have teams moving on your mother and sister right now, Ms. Vance," the agent assured me.
I walked out of the police station with my head held high, leaning proudly on my cane.
Daniel drove me back to my luxury penthouse in comfortable silence.
My phone buzzed constantly with news alerts breaking the massive corruption scandal.
I watched a live broadcast on my screen as federal agents dragged my screaming mother out of her stolen house.
Claire was arrested at the airport trying to flee the country with a suitcase full of stolen jewelry.

They were finally going to spend the rest of their miserable lives behind bars.
The war was over, and I had won.
