Chapter 6 - The Scullery Maid’s Vengeance

The fake engagement was a media sensation. To the world, they were the ultimate billionaire fairytale. Behind closed doors, they were two prisoners planning a murder.

Elena needed more than just a DNA test to take Arthur down; she needed proof of his crimes.

She traded her Valentino gowns for her old grey uniform late at night, slipping down into the servants' quarters. She found Marco, the head chef who had always treated her kindly.

"Elena... my god," Marco whispered, seeing the heiress in the kitchen.

"I need a favor, Marco," she said. "I need the blueprints to the Manor's basement. The old ones. Before the renovations."

Marco provided them. Elena discovered a hidden sub-basement beneath the wine cellar—a space Arthur used for private, unrecorded meetings.

That night, while Arthur was hosting a poker game upstairs, Elena and Sebastian infiltrated the sub-basement. They found a wall safe hidden behind a vintage wine rack. Sebastian, using a stethoscope and his knowledge of his father's habits, cracked the safe in minutes.

Inside were ledgers. Black-market accounts, payoffs to politicians, and a single, damning folder labeled HAMPTONS INCIDENT 2006.

Elena opened it. It contained the arson report. Arthur had paid a hitman to burn the house down to collect a massive insurance payout and eliminate his first wife—Elena’s real mother—who was threatening to divorce him and take half the company.

Maria the maid hadn't kidnapped Elena. She had rescued her from a murder plot.

Elena fell to her knees on the cold cellar floor, sobbing. Sebastian knelt beside her, pulling her into his chest. He held her tightly, his own eyes dark with murderous fury.

"I'm going to kill him," Sebastian vowed, stroking her hair. "I'm going to tear him to pieces for what he did to you."
