Chapter 3 - The Midnight Escape
Doctor Evans did not hesitate for a single second when he saw the deadly syringe.
He forcefully shoved a heavy medical cart directly into Victoria, knocking her violently against the doorframe.
The sharp syringe flew from her hand and shattered completely against the hard tile floor.
"Get out of the bed right now, Mia!" the doctor yelled, pulling the IV line completely out of her arm.
Mia ignored the sharp pain and scrambled out of the hospital bed as fast as her bruised body allowed.
They bolted through the connecting bathroom and slipped directly out into the empty staff hallway.
Alarms suddenly began blaring loudly throughout the entire cardiology ward.
"Julian has half the security staff on his personal payroll, so we cannot use the main elevators," Doctor Evans warned.
They hurried down the dark, narrow emergency stairwell, descending five floors in complete silence.
Mia clutched her pregnant stomach, completely determined to protect her baby at all costs.
They reached the underground parking garage just as two armed security guards ran past their hiding spot.
Doctor Evans quickly unlocked a rusty, heavily dented sedan parked in the far corner.
Mia jumped into the passenger seat and ducked completely down below the dashboard.
The doctor sped out of the dark garage, aggressively dodging the descending security gates.
They drove in terrifying silence for hours, leaving the bright city lights far behind them.
Doctor Evans finally pulled up to an abandoned, incredibly isolated cabin hidden deep in the mountain woods.
"This old hunting lodge belonged to your father, and absolutely no one knows it exists," he explained softly.
Mia walked into the dusty cabin and immediately plugged her phone into a portable battery pack.
She knew the video of the fall was not enough to put a powerful billionaire like Julian in federal prison.
She opened a secure, hidden file directory on her phone that she had secretly copied from Julian's laptop months ago.
She began desperately searching through his encrypted offshore financial records for a motive.
Her eyes widened as she discovered a massive trust fund completely activated upon her tragic death.
Julian was entirely completely broke, and he needed her life insurance payout to save his failing company.
But the very last document in the hidden folder made her blood run entirely cold.
