Chapter 2 - The Silent Ward

The piercing wail of the ambulance siren faded into the sterile white walls of the emergency room.

Mia lay completely paralyzed on the cold hospital stretcher, praying desperately for her unborn child.

She watched helplessly as Julian put on a brilliant performance for the concerned doctors.

He cried fake, highly convincing tears and demanded they do absolutely everything to save his beautiful wife.

Victoria, the woman in the emerald dress, stood right beside him, acting like the perfect, supportive friend.

The doctors quickly rolled Mia away into a highly secure, private trauma ward.

Hours passed in terrifying, agonizing silence before a gray-haired doctor finally entered her room.

He checked her vitals on the buzzing monitors before giving her a warm, highly reassuring smile.

"By some absolute miracle, your baby is completely unharmed and perfectly healthy," Doctor Evans stated clearly.

Mia let out a heavy, shuddering breath of pure relief and closed her exhausted eyes.

Then Doctor Evans leaned incredibly close to her ear, his friendly expression turning completely serious.

"I have known your late father for thirty years, Mia, and I know exactly who Julian really is," he whispered softly.

Mia opened her eyes wide, staring at the older man in complete shock.

Doctor Evans reached into the deep pocket of his white medical coat.

He pulled out the exact dark smartphone that Julian had stolen from her at the bottom of the stairs.

"Julian handed his jacket to a nurse when he arrived, and I successfully swapped your phone with a broken decoy," the doctor explained.

Mia grabbed the device with trembling hands and immediately unlocked the cracked screen.

The high-definition video of her terrible fall was still perfectly saved in her private gallery.

She pressed play and watched the horrifying moment Victoria shoved her down the marble steps.

But the camera angle also captured something entirely unexpected in the distant background.

Exactly two seconds before the violent push, Julian had made direct eye contact with Victoria and given her a sharp, confirming nod.

Her own husband had actively orchestrated her attempted murder directly in front of a hundred witnesses.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden door to her hospital room clicked loudly as the lock disengaged.

Victoria stepped smoothly into the dark room, holding a syringe filled with a strange, clear liquid.

"I simply came to make sure you finally get some permanent rest, Mia," the wicked woman sneered.
