Marcus froze, his brain failing to process the sight. "No... no, I paid them. I paid them to end you!"
"You paid them with money you stole from a frozen corporate account, which is a federal crime," Toby said, tapping the screen of his tablet. "You also hired a known hitman to commit premeditated murder. Another heavy felony."

"You really thought you were the apex predator in this city, didn't you?" Toby walked slowly toward Marcus, who was now backing away, trembling uncontrollably. "You grew up believing that money and a name gave you the right to treat people like insects. You told me I didn't deserve to breathe the same air as your car."
"Please," Marcus whimpered, his back hitting a concrete wall. The police were already swarming up the stairwell, their heavy boots echoing through the structure. "Please, Thorne. I'll do anything. I'll leave the country. Just let me go."
"I gave you a chance to walk away in the boardroom," Toby said coldly. "You chose a war."

The SWAT team burst onto the floor, weapons drawn. "Marcus Vance! Put your hands on your head and get on the ground! Now!"
Marcus's knees gave out. He collapsed onto the dusty concrete, sobbing as rough hands grabbed him, slamming him face-first into the floor to cuff him. The golden boy of the financial district was reduced to a crying, broken mess in the dirt.
