Chapter 7 - The Desperate Usurper
Word of the library meeting did not stay secret. Isabelle had bribed one of the senior housekeepers to listen at the door.
When Isabelle heard the truth, she locked herself in her suite, destroying everything in sight. Vases shattered against the walls. Paintings were shredded.
She wasn't a Sterling. She was an imposter. And worse, the ratty maid she had been torturing was the true heir to a fifty-billion-dollar empire.
Isabelle picked up her phone. She couldn't let this happen. If Victoria went public, Isabelle would be cast out with nothing. She needed to act fast, and she needed an ally who hated Victoria as much as she suddenly did.
She dialed Richard Vance, Victoria’s brother-in-law and the only board member who consistently tried to usurp control of the company.
"Uncle Richard," Isabelle hissed into the phone, her voice shaking with manic energy. "We have a problem. A massive one. Victoria found a long-lost biological daughter. If she inherits, you'll never get the CEO seat."
There was a long pause on the other end. "Are you certain of this, Isabelle?"
"I heard it myself. She has DNA proof."

"Then the solution is simple," Richard replied, his voice deadly calm. "We make sure the girl never lives to see the inheritance papers. I will handle the logistics. You make sure the girl is outside the estate grounds tomorrow night."
Isabelle smiled in the dark. "Consider it done."
