Chapter 10 - The Rightful Heir

Six months later.

The Chicago skyline sparkled under a clear, starry night. The Sterling Tower's penthouse boardroom was completely transformed. Gone were the old, corrupt board members, replaced by a diverse, aggressive team of new talent.

At the head of the massive glass table sat Elena.

She wore a sharp, impeccably tailored navy suit. Her dark hair was styled sleekly over her shoulders. She looked at the quarterly projections, her sharp eyes missing nothing. She had Victoria’s ruthless intellect, but she possessed something Victoria didn't: empathy. Elena had already revolutionized the company’s philanthropic wing, restructuring housing initiatives in the very neighborhoods she had grown up in.

The heavy doors opened, and Victoria walked in. She looked rested, lighter, as if a twenty-five-year curse had finally been lifted from her shoulders.

"The merger with Vance Logistics is complete," Elena said, looking up at her mother with a warm smile. "We absorbed them entirely. No layoffs for the ground workers."

"Excellent work, Madam CEO," Victoria smiled, pouring two glasses of sparkling water.

Elena stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking down at the glittering city below. She thought about the cramped apartment, the abusive customers at the diner, and the terrifying first day scrubbing the stairs of the manor.

"Do you ever miss her?" Elena asked quietly.

Victoria stepped up beside her, wrapping a loving arm around Elena’s shoulders. "I miss the illusion of what I thought I had. But I wouldn't trade a second of this reality for it. You were worth the wait, Elena."

Elena leaned her head against her mother's shoulder. The storm had finally passed. The true heir had not just claimed her throne; she had redefined it. And the Sterling dynasty had never been stronger.
