Victoria was bankrupt, humiliated, and facing multiple lawsuits for defamation and unpaid debts. In her twisted mind, she blamed Alexander for her downfall, but she blamed Elena even more.
It was a rainy Tuesday night. Alexander was caught at the office dealing with an overseas crisis. Elena was home alone with the girls.
The power to the estate suddenly cut out.
Elena’s instincts flared immediately. The mansion had three backup generators; total darkness was impossible unless the system had been manually severed from the main breaker outside.

She hurried the girls down the hall, but before she could reach the reinforced steel door, the glass of the patio doors shattered downstairs.
