Chapter 4 - The Rain of Glass

They plummeted two stories down into the freezing waters of the decorative courtyard fountain.
The massive explosion above them sent a terrifying shockwave rippling through the dark sky.
Cole dragged a coughing Eleanor out of the freezing water and into the shadows of the alley.
Her beautiful red dress was ruined, but she did not look the least bit frightened.
She quickly picked the lock of a stolen sedan parked near the service exit.
Cole climbed into the passenger seat, bleeding heavily from a deep cut on his forehead.
He pressed a torn piece of his tuxedo shirt against the wound to stop the bleeding.
He demanded to know why a legendary syndicate auditor cared about his father's murder.
Eleanor drove the stolen car recklessly through the dark, rain-slicked streets of Manhattan.
She kept her eyes firmly on the rearview mirror to ensure they were not being followed.
She finally confessed that her own father had been driving the car the night Cole's father was killed.
Her father was the loyal family driver who had taken the blame for the supposed accident.
She had spent three years pretending to be a pathetic mouse just to clear her family's name.
Cole stared at the fierce, beautiful woman beside him, realizing he had underestimated her entirely.
He softly apologized for treating her like a joke for the past three years.
Eleanor slammed on the brakes, sending the car skidding wildly into an abandoned warehouse.

She pointed her silver pistol directly at Cole's chest.
She told him she didn't want his apology, because the evidence proved Cole had signed the original assassination order.
