Chapter 8 - The Ultimatum
"What do you want?" Genevieve choked out, the fight completely drained from her body.
"You will sign a full confession to the wire fraud and market manipulation, claiming you acted entirely alone in a bout of psychological distress," Victoria dictated seamlessly. "You will sign a swift, uncontested annulment, waiving all rights to the Vanguard estate or alimony. Upon your release from federal prison in—let’s say, ten to fifteen years—you will vanish. If you agree, your mother lives a long, luxurious life in Italy."
Genevieve looked at the cold, calculating eyes of the matriarch. She had thought she was a shark. She didn't realize she had swum into the jaws of a leviathan.
"You're a monster," Genevieve wept, picking up the pen.

Genevieve signed her name, effectively erasing her own existence from the world of the elite.
