Chapter 6 - The Trap is Sprung

Genevieve bolted to her feet, knocking her chair backward. "You have no jurisdiction here, Victoria!"
"I don't," Victoria agreed, adjusting her silk gloves. "But Agent Vance here does. You see, Genevieve, when you leaked those forged documents to frame me, you routed them through the Vanguard server network. A network that is heavily monitored by federal cyber-security watchdogs."
"You let me hack your servers?" Genevieve whispered in horror.
"I left the door wide open for you," Victoria smiled, a terrifying curve of her lips. "You committed federal wire fraud, corporate espionage, and perjury in an attempt to manipulate the stock market. You handed them the knife to cut your own throat."
The federal agents stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from their belts.
"Arthur!" Genevieve screamed, thrashing as the agents grabbed her wrists. "Arthur, do something! I'm your wife!"

Arthur slowly stood up. He buttoned his suit jacket, looking at the woman he thought he loved with absolute zero emotion.
"You aren't my wife," Arthur said, his voice dropping an octave, echoing the icy timbre of his mother. "You're a bad investment. And the Vanguards always cut their losses."
