Chapter 10 - The False Victory

Leo did not care about Greg's twisted revelations.

He fired a single shot.

The bullet struck Greg perfectly between the eyes.

The actuary collapsed backward against the window and slid lifelessly to the linoleum floor.

Tessa screamed, running past the bleeding body to throw her arms around her father.

The old man hugged her tightly, his frail hands trembling against her back.

“It is over, Tessa,” Leo said softly, lowering his weapon.

He approached them, his dark eyes finally softening as he looked at her.

“I told you I would keep you safe.”

Tessa looked at the mafia boss, seeing him for the first time not as a captor, but as her savior.

He had burned his own empire to the ground just to keep her alive.

Leo escorted them quickly out of the facility and into the safety of the armored SUV.

He started the engine, pulling away from the curb and disappearing into the dark, rainy city.

Tessa sat in the back seat, holding her father’s hand, finally feeling a profound sense of peace.

The nightmare was finished.

She leaned her head against the cold glass of the window, exhausted but deeply grateful.

Her father shifted in the seat next to her.

He looked past her, making direct eye contact with Leo through the rearview mirror.

The old man's trembling fear completely vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating glare.

He leaned forward and spoke in a voice that was perfectly clear and steady.

“Did she figure out that you were the one who orchestrated the car crash that put me in this hospital three years ago?”
