Chapter 1 - The Silk Trap

“He’s going to sit across a table and look at the way that silk fits you.”
Leo’s voice was a low, dangerous murmur in the quiet foyer.
Tessa tried to step back, but the marble staircase blocked her retreat.
“Please, Leo, let me go.”
“I am not letting you walk out of this house.”
His large hand wrapped around her wrist, his grip unyielding but surprisingly careful.
He reached into her small clutch purse and pulled out her cell phone.
Tessa gasped and reached for it, but he held it effortlessly out of her reach.
The screen illuminated his sharp features as he tapped the glass.
“What are you doing?”
“I am canceling your date.”
He pressed the phone to his ear, his eyes never leaving her face.
Tessa felt a surge of humiliation and fury at his absolute control.
The line connected.
Leo spoke with cold, calculated authority.
“Gregory, this is Leo Santoro.”
He paused, expecting the actuary to stutter and apologize.
“Tessa will not be joining you tonight, or any other night.”
Leo’s expression suddenly shifted, the arrogant smirk vanishing into something deadly.
The voice coming through the small speaker was not the nervous stammer of a civilian.

Greg’s voice was cold, flat, and entirely professional.
“I know exactly who you are, Leo, and I am already coming for what is mine.”
