Chapter 10 - The Fall of the Empire

The shipping yard became a chaotic battleground of muzzle flashes and echoing gunshots. Silas was a professional killer, but he was fighting in the dark against two people who had absolutely nothing left to lose.

Silas moved with lethal grace, pinning Elena down with suppressive fire. He was closing in on her position.

Julian knew he had to act. He grabbed a heavy steel crowbar from the forklift and crept through the snow, using the howling wind to mask his footsteps. As Silas paused to reload, Julian lunged.

He swung the crowbar, striking Silas hard in the shoulder. The assassin grunted in pain, dropping his weapon. But Silas was ruthless. He pivoted, driving a brutal punch into Julian's ribs, sending him crashing into the snow.

Silas stood over Julian, pulling a tactical combat knife from his belt. "It ends here, boy."

"I agree," a voice said.

Silas froze. Elena was standing five feet away, her pistol leveled directly at Silas's head.

"For Marcus," she whispered.

She pulled the trigger.

Silas collapsed into the snow, lifeless. The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the wail of the winter wind and the sobbing of Elena's sister as she ran into Elena's arms.

Julian lay in the snow, bruised and bleeding, staring up at the tablet glowing in the darkness.

The screen flashed green. TRANSMISSION COMPLETE.

Within seconds, the phones of every major journalist, FBI director, and Interpol agent in the world began to ping simultaneously. Vanguard Holdings, the untouchable shadow empire, was officially exposed. Their servers were bricked, their assets frozen, their secrets laid bare for the world to see.

Julian pulled himself up, wincing as his ribs flared with pain. He looked at Elena. They were bruised, battered, and hunted. But they were alive.

The eight-figure bank account didn't matter anymore. The magazine covers didn't matter. Success, Julian finally understood, wasn't about the money you made.

It was about surviving long enough to spend it.

He pulled the burner phone from his pocket, crushed it beneath his boot, and walked away into the falling snow.
