Chapter 4 - The Escape Vehicle

I sprinted away from the vault faster than I had ever run in my entire life.
I dove into the driver's seat of the black sedan just as the timer hit zero.
The massive explosion violently shook the entire underground foundation of the mansion.
A terrifying shockwave of fire and concrete debris blew the heavy garage doors completely off their hinges.
I slammed my foot aggressively onto the gas pedal.
The armored sedan roared to life and tore through the thick, blinding smoke.
We launched out of the burning garage and onto the rainy private access road.
I looked in the rearview mirror and saw my beautiful family estate collapsing in a fiery inferno.
Hannah screamed in terror as chunks of burning debris rained down on the roof of our car.
I gripped the steering wheel tightly and accelerated down the winding mountain road.
I knew Vincent had planned to use the explosion to erase all evidence of his massive theft.
He wanted to bury me, the maid, and Julian's only child beneath the rubble.
Suddenly, three black SUVs with reinforced bumpers swerved out from a hidden side road.
They fell into formation directly behind us, their bright high beams blinding my mirrors.
Vincent's heavily armed loyalists were not going to let us escape into the city.
One of the SUVs pulled up beside us and a man leaned out the window with an automatic rifle.
He opened fire, sending a hail of bullets sparking violently against my bulletproof glass.
I violently swerved my heavy sedan to the right, slamming hard into the side of the SUV.
The impact sent the enemy vehicle spinning out of control into a deep, muddy ditch.
However, the other two vehicles continued to pursue us relentlessly.
I yelled for Hannah to keep her head down and cover Grace with her own body.
I pushed the sedan to its absolute limits, taking dangerous corners at terrifying speeds.
We finally reached the edge of the city limits, hoping to lose them in the dense traffic.
A sharp, painful gasp suddenly came from the backseat.
I looked back and saw Hannah pressing her hand tightly against her left side.
A jagged piece of shrapnel from a compromised window frame had pierced deeply into her ribs.
Hannah was bleeding heavily onto the leather seats, and her face was turning dangerously pale.
I grabbed my encrypted GPS device to map the fastest route to an underground mob doctor.

The digital screen lit up, but it did not show the city streets at all.
It displayed a terrifying message from Vincent stating that every corrupt cop in the city was currently waiting for us at the upcoming bridge.
