Chapter 3 - The Panic Button

Vincent cocked the hammer of his suppressed pistol with a chilling metallic click.

He told me to order the maid to step out from behind the curtain right now.

I did not hesitate for a single second to protect my brother's family.

I slammed my fist aggressively down onto the red panic button hidden beneath my desk.

Thick steel security shutters instantly dropped down over all the office windows.

A blaring alarm began screaming through the entire mansion.

The sudden deafening noise caused Vincent to flinch and briefly lower his weapon.

I drew my hidden pistol and fired two rapid shots into his right shoulder.

Vincent shouted in pain and fell backward onto the Persian rug.

I rushed over to the velvet curtains and pulled Hannah and Grace out from the shadows.

I dragged them toward the massive wooden bookshelf lining the back wall.

I pulled a specific leather-bound book, activating the hidden door mechanism.

The heavy bookcase swung outward, revealing a dark, narrow emergency tunnel.

I shoved Hannah inside and quickly followed, pulling the heavy bookcase shut behind us.

The thick walls completely muffled the screaming alarm bells from the main office.

I turned on my phone's flashlight and led them quickly down the dusty spiral staircase.

Hannah held Grace tightly against her chest, crying silently in the pitch-black tunnel.

I promised her that I would get them out of this mansion completely alive.

We descended three stories deep into the concrete foundation of the estate.

The tunnel eventually ended at a reinforced steel door leading to my private underground garage.

I punched in my personal security code, and the heavy door hissed open.

My private collection of armored sports cars sat silently in the dim emergency lighting.

I told Hannah to get into the bulletproof black sedan parked nearest to the exit.

I ran over to the central vault where the sixty million dollars was supposed to be stacked on pallets.

I needed to secure the funds before we abandoned the compromised estate.

I swung the vault door open and shined my flashlight inside.

The entire massive room was completely empty of cash.

Sitting directly in the center of the empty floor was a massive block of military-grade C4 explosives with a red digital timer reading only ten seconds.
