Chapter 8 - Blood and Ink

The Don looked at his only son with deep, painful disappointment in his dark eyes.

"Step away from the traitor, Alex," the old man commanded in a gravelly voice.

Alex stood his ground, firmly shielding Nina behind his broad shoulders.

"She is completely innocent, Father," Alex argued passionately.

"Sariah Romano framed her to cover up her own family's massive theft."

The Don simply shook his head, his hand holding the golden revolver perfectly steady.

"The girl is the daughter of a known thief, and the apple does not fall far from the tree."

"I am giving you exactly ten seconds to execute her and prove your loyalty to this family."

Nina grabbed the back of Alex's torn jacket, her heart hammering violently against her ribs.

"If you want to shoot her, you will have to shoot perfectly through my heart first," Alex declared.

He raised his own matte-black pistol and aimed it directly at his father's head.

"Please stop this!" Nina begged, stepping out from behind Alex.

"I will give you the ledger, just do not kill each other."

Before the Don could respond, a deafening mechanical roar shook the entire skyscraper.

The massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the penthouse violently shattered inward.

A heavy Russian combat helicopter was hovering just outside the ruined office.

The door of the chopper slid open, revealing several Romano mercenaries armed with heavy machine guns.

A hail of deadly bullets instantly ripped through the luxurious office furniture.
