Chapter 6 - Into the Shadows

Nina thrashed violently against the massive man holding her captive in the dark.
The stranger's grip was like an iron vice crushing her jaw.
She desperately bit down as hard as she could on the thick leather glove covering her mouth.
The man grunted in severe pain and swore loudly in heavy Russian.
His grip loosened for just a fraction of a second.
Nina screamed Alex's name into the echoing tunnel.
Suddenly, Alex appeared from the darkness like a vengeful demon.
He tackled the massive Russian mercenary with absolute, brutal force.
Nina scrambled backward against the damp wall, watching the terrifying fight unfold.
Alex fought with a lethal, terrifying grace that proved he was truly a mafia heir.
He dodged a heavy knife thrust and delivered a punishing blow to the man's throat.
The mercenary collapsed to his knees, gasping desperately for air.
Alex did not hesitate to violently snap the man's neck, ending the threat permanently.
He immediately dropped his weapon and rushed over to where Nina was cowering.
He pulled her up from the filthy ground and crushed her into a desperate embrace.
"Are you hurt?" he asked frantically, his hands checking her arms and face for injuries.
"I am okay," she sobbed, burying her face into his ruined suit jacket.
The adrenaline and fear finally overwhelmed her rational mind.
She looked up at him in the dim light of the fallen flashlight.
Alex stared down at her lips with undeniable, raw hunger.
He kissed her passionately in the dark tunnel, pressing her firmly against the cold brick wall.
Nina kissed him back with equal desperation, briefly forgetting all the terrible danger surrounding them.
His hands tangled deeply in her messy hair, pulling her impossibly closer.
Suddenly, a loud buzzing noise interrupted the heavy silence.
Alex slowly pulled away, his chest heaving as he reached into his pocket for his phone.
He looked at the glowing screen, and the color completely drained from his handsome face.

His own father, Don Mancini, had just sent a mass text to every enforcer in the city.
The Don had officially placed a one-million-dollar bounty squarely on Nina's head.
