Chapter 5 - The Glass Prison

Thorne stood perfectly still inside the luxurious elevator, flanked by two massive bodyguards.
“I own the security company that built this tower, you foolish children,” Thorne gloated smoothly.
Before Leo could raise his weapon, the bodyguards deployed high-voltage tasers.
The electric prongs struck Leo and Julian simultaneously, sending them convulsing to the marble floor.
Maya tried to fight back, but Thorne backhanded her viciously across the face, knocking her down.
Shiomara stood completely alone, clutching the heavy property deed against her chest.
“Give me the envelope, Shiomara, and I will let you walk out the front door,” Thorne offered with a fake smile.
“I would rather burn it,” Shiomara spat defiantly.
Thorne sighed, clearly annoyed by the street vendor’s stubborn resilience.
He gestured to his guards, who roughly grabbed Shiomara by the arms and dragged her into the elevator.
They threw the unconscious triplets inside as well before Thorne pressed the button for the top floor.
The elevator shot upward, the numbers climbing rapidly until they reached the 100th floor.
The doors opened into a massive, heavily reinforced glass vault that served as the building's panic room.
The guards tossed the triplets and Shiomara onto the cold glass floor.
Thorne stepped out of the vault and looked at them through the impenetrable, bulletproof walls.
“This room was designed to withstand a direct missile strike, and it is completely airtight,” Thorne explained.
He typed a code into a digital keypad on the outside wall, sealing the heavy door with a mechanical hiss.
“You have exactly one hour of breathable oxygen left in that room,” Thorne stated coldly.
He held up a microphone that broadcast his voice inside the glass prison.
“Slide the deed through the small document slot, and I will open the door.”
Thorne turned off the microphone and walked away, leaving them trapped in the silent glass box.
Leo slowly regained consciousness, groaning in pain as he looked at the digital timer counting down on the wall.
Maya hugged her brothers, realizing their biological father was truly a monster willing to kill them.
Shiomara looked at the document slot and then at the metal food cart lighter she always kept in her pocket.
“We are not going to die in a glass box,” Shiomara whispered fiercely.

She walked over to the reinforced air vent, ignited her lighter, and held the flame against the temperature sensor.
Immediately, the entire building’s emergency fire suppression system activated, completely flooding the room with toxic chemical foam.
