Chapter 4 - The Blood Betrayal

Julian collapsed onto the hard concrete floor as blood rapidly pooled around him.

Maya screamed in absolute horror and dropped to her knees to press her hands against her brother’s chest.

Leo roared in fury and fired his weapon blindly toward Thorne and his mercenaries.

“Grab him and move!” Leo shouted as he laid down heavy suppressive fire.

Shiomara did not hesitate to help Maya drag Julian’s heavy body behind a concrete support pillar.

The mercenaries returned fire, chipping away massive chunks of concrete right above their heads.

Thorne casually walked backward into the shadows while his men kept the group pinned down.

“You were always a massive disappointment to me, Leo!” Thorne’s voice echoed through the dark garage.

“I abandoned you on the streets because I wanted heirs forged in pure fire, but you became soft.”

Shiomara ripped the sleeve of her shirt and pressed it hard against Julian’s bleeding wound.

Julian coughed, his face turning pale, but he managed a weak smile.

“I am wearing a Kevlar vest, you old fool,” Julian wheezed softly.

Shiomara let out a massive breath of relief as she saw the bullet lodged in the thick black fabric.

Leo realized his brother was safe and quickly formulated an escape plan.

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small, spherical metal device.

“Close your eyes and cover your ears!” Leo commanded fiercely.

He pulled the pin and hurled the flashbang grenade directly into the center of the mercenaries.

A blinding white light and a deafening explosion incapacitated Thorne’s men instantly.

Leo grabbed Shiomara’s hand, and they all sprinted toward a heavy steel maintenance door in the corner.

Julian kicked the door open, and they rushed into a narrow, damp utility tunnel.

They locked the heavy door behind them just as the mercenaries recovered and began pounding on the steel.

They navigated the dark tunnels for nearly an hour until they emerged into the basement of a massive building.

Shiomara looked around at the pristine marble floors and the glowing gold elevators.

“Where exactly are we?” Shiomara asked while catching her breath.

Maya pressed a button to summon the private express elevator.

“Welcome to the Sterling Tower, Shiomara,” Maya said grimly.

The elevator doors chimed and slid open to reveal Silas Thorne standing inside, waiting for them.
