Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Bond

That night, after the guests had left and the house was quiet, I carried a sleeping Chloe up the stairs.
I tucked her into bed, pulling the thick, warm quilt up to her chin. The room was peaceful, illuminated only by the soft glow of her star-shaped nightlight.
I sat on the edge of the bed for a long time, just watching her breathe.
I thought about the woman who had walked through the front door six months ago, smelling of snow and gunpowder, only to find her world shattered on the marble floor. That woman had been a weapon.
But I was more than a weapon now. I was a shield.
Liam and Monica had thought they were dealing with a typical, submissive wife who would cry, break, and surrender her home and her child. They didn't realize that some mothers are forged in fire. Chloe shifted in her sleep, reaching out blindly. I caught her small hand in mine, holding it gently.
“I love you, Mama,” she mumbled in her sleep.

I smiled, tears pricking my eyes. “I love you too, my brave girl. I’ve got you. Forever.”
The house was silent, safe, and entirely ours. We had survived the storm, and now, we were going to conquer the world together. The end.
