Chapter 9 - The Truth

Elias stared at the glowing mark on the infant's neck in utter horror.
It was not a cartel brand or a simple genetic tracer.
It was a highly unstable chemical isotope designed to react violently to specific radio frequencies.
Julian laughed weakly from beneath the crushed steel beam.
"You really thought I was the mastermind behind this?" Julian coughed, spitting more blood.
"I am just a pawn in a much bigger game, Father."
Anna rushed forward, panic replacing the hardened resolve on her face.
She recognized the glowing chemical compound from her father's secret cartel files.
"It is a proximity trigger," Anna yelled over the sirens outside.
"If the master signal gets too close, the isotope will detonate."
Elias realized the baby had been engineered as a living bomb to destroy the estate from within.
He had to get the child out of the city immediately.
He handed the crying baby carefully to Anna.
"Run to the docks and find my private boat," Elias ordered.
Anna hesitated, refusing to leave him behind in the crumbling building.
"I will not leave you to take the fall for this," she argued fiercely.
"I am not taking the fall," Elias said, pulling a heavy iron crowbar from the debris.
"I am making sure the people who did this never come after you again."
He turned back to Julian, demanding the name of the true puppet master.
Julian shook his head, a terrified smile forming on his dying lips.
"He is already here," Julian whispered just before his eyes rolled back permanently.
A chillingly familiar voice echoed from the shadows of the warehouse entrance.
"You always were too slow to catch on, Elias."
Doctor Aris walked calmly into the room, holding a sophisticated radio transmitter.
He was not just a private physician; he was the shadowy architect of the cartel's genetic experiments.
"Hand over my finest creation, and I might let you live," Aris demanded coldly.
Elias tightened his grip on the heavy crowbar.
He glanced over his shoulder and gave Anna a slight nod to run.
Anna sprinted toward the back exit with the baby clutched tightly to her chest.
Doctor Aris raised a suppressed pistol to shoot her in the back.
Elias roared with fury and charged directly at the doctor.
He swung the heavy iron bar with every ounce of strength he had left in his battered body.
The doctor fired a shot, but Elias did not stop.
The metal bar connected with the doctor's hand, shattering the radio transmitter into a hundred pieces.

The glowing mark on the baby's neck instantly faded to a dull black.
Elias tackled the doctor to the ground, pinning him as the police finally stormed the building.
