Chapter 1 - The Photograph

Elias stared at the weathered photograph in his trembling hands.

The edges of the paper were frayed from years of being hidden away in the dark.

The young woman smiling back at him was Sarah.

She was the only person who had ever managed to pierce his cold and guarded heart.

He looked up slowly from the picture.

His piercing blue eyes locked onto the exhausted girl standing before him.

Her messy hair and pale face mirrored the exact fragility Sarah had carried during her final days in the city.

"My car is parked just outside," Elias said.

His voice was surprisingly gentle for a man known to command empires.

Anna took a hesitant step back.

Her protective instincts flared as she pulled the small stroller closer to her battered legs.

"I cannot let you walk back out into the freezing rain," he continued.

He gestured softly to the photo she had handed him.

"Not after seeing this."

The grocery store clerk watched in absolute silence.

He was too stunned by the billionaire's sudden appearance to demand payment for the milk.

Elias reached into his tailored suit jacket.

He pulled out a crisp hundred-dollar bill and dropped it casually onto the counter.

"Keep the change," he muttered without looking at the clerk.

He gently placed a hand on the handle of the stroller.

He silently guided Anna out of the fluorescent glare of the store.

The icy wind bit into Anna's cheeks as she stepped onto the sidewalk.

The heavy doors of a black armored Maybach quickly opened to shield them from the storm.

Inside the luxurious vehicle, the heated leather seats felt like a distant dream.

Baby Leo eagerly drank from the carton of milk.

His small hands clutched it as if it were a lifeline.

Elias watched the child closely from the opposite seat.

His sharp mind raced to untangle a web of decades-old lies.

"She told me to find you," Anna whispered.

Her voice was barely audible over the hum of the powerful engine.

"Sarah disappeared twenty years ago without leaving a single trace behind," Elias replied.

His chest tightened with unresolved grief.

He leaned forward to study the intricate features of the baby's face in the dim cabin light.

The massive iron gates of Elias's private estate loomed ahead.

It was a towering fortress designed to keep his ruthless enemies at bay.

As the car rolled to a smooth stop, a team of silent staff members rushed forward with umbrellas.

Anna stumbled slightly as she stepped out of the vehicle.

She accidentally knocked the thin blanket off the baby's shivering shoulders.

Elias quickly reached down to catch the falling fabric.

His movement froze completely halfway down.

His blood instantly ran ice-cold as his eyes locked onto the back of the infant's exposed neck.

Branded into the baby's pale skin was a small and unmistakable black serpent.

It was the crest of the Moretti syndicate, the very cartel Elias had sworn to destroy.
