Chapter 10 - The Last Dawn

The harsh glare of the morning sun broke through the storm clouds.
Elias sat on the back of an ambulance, watching the police haul Doctor Aris away in heavy chains.
The brutal war that had raged in the shadows for decades was finally over.
Elias's empire was battered, but the corruption had been violently purged from its roots.
Anna sat quietly beside him, gently rocking a sleeping baby Leo.
The glowing isotope had been neutralized safely by the authorities.
The child was no longer a weapon, but simply a little boy who needed a family.
Elias looked at Anna, seeing past her previous betrayal to the frightened girl who just wanted to survive.
"You saved my life in that warehouse," Elias said softly.
Anna looked down at her hands, still covered in dirt and dried blood.
"After everything I did to deceive you, you still protected us," she replied.
Elias placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"We both did terrible things to survive the world we were born into."
He pulled a formal document from the inner pocket of his ruined suit jacket.
It was a rushed, emergency adoption decree authorized by his high-powered lawyers during the chaos.
"You do not have to run anymore, Anna."
He offered her the papers and a gold pen.
"You and Leo are officially under my protection now."
Tears streamed down Anna's face as she signed her name, finally securing the safety she had always dreamed of.
The sprawling estate was quickly repaired over the following months.
It transformed from a cold, heavily guarded fortress into a warm home filled with laughter and peace.
Elias finally found the redemption he had been searching for since Sarah disappeared.
The ghosts of the past were buried, and the family was whole.
Later that evening, Anna was sorting through a box of Sarah's old belongings that Elias had safely recovered from the cartel's vault.
At the bottom of the box, she found a second photograph, this one showing Sarah standing next to a man whose face was scratched out.

Flipped over, the back of the picture bore a hastily scribbled warning in fresh red ink.
"Elias is the one who ordered the hit on us, trust no one."
