Chapter 7 - The Bloodline Secret

My heart stopped beating for a terrifying second as I stared at my father's grim face.

"What is wrong with my baby?" I asked, my voice trembling with absolute panic.

Arthur stood up and paced slowly across the pristine hospital room.

"Sophia has a very rare genetic blood condition that requires an immediate bone marrow transplant," he explained.

"The problem is that neither your blood type nor Dominic's blood type is a match for her."

I shook my head in utter confusion.

"That is medically impossible," I argued.

"Dominic and I conceived her through in vitro fertilization at the best clinic in the city."

Arthur pulled a classified medical folder from his tailored suit jacket and handed it to me.

"I had my private investigators raid the fertility clinic while you were unconscious," Arthur said.

"Dominic paid the clinic director two million dollars to swap your embryo with a completely different one."

I stared at the paperwork in my hands, unable to process the magnitude of the betrayal.

Dominic had ensured that I would carry and birth a child that shared zero genetic connection to the Sterling family.

He wanted a child he could completely control without my powerful father interfering.

"If Dominic is not the father, then whose child did I just give birth to?" I whispered in horror.

Arthur took a deep breath and looked me squarely in the eyes.

"The biological father is Marcus Vance, the most ruthless crime boss on the eastern seaboard," Arthur revealed.

A cold wave of pure terror washed over my entire body.

Marcus Vance was a man known for violently destroying anyone who crossed his path.

"Does Marcus know about the baby?" I asked frantically.

Before Arthur could answer, the heavy wooden door of my hospital room burst violently open.

A dozen heavily armed mercenaries poured into the room, aiming laser-sighted rifles at my father.

A towering man covered in dark tattoos and wearing a tailored black trench coat walked slowly through the doorway.

It was Marcus Vance himself, and his eyes burned with lethal, unadulterated fury.

"Where is my daughter?" Marcus growled, his voice vibrating with absolute menace.

Arthur stepped in front of my bed, completely unfazed by the dangerous weapons pointed at his chest.

"You will not touch my daughter or my granddaughter, Vance," Arthur stated firmly.

Marcus scoffed and pulled a massive silver revolver from his trench coat.

"She is not your granddaughter, Sterling, and I am taking her home with me today."
