Chapter 5 - The Roof Escape

"Where is my baby?" I screamed, my voice cracking with pure terror.

Marcus looked down at his empty arms in complete disbelief.

"She bumped into me when the steel shutters fell, and the baby was gone," Marcus stammered.

I looked fiercely at Dominic, who was watching Arthur confirm the billion-dollar transfer on his phone.

"The transfer is complete," Arthur said, holding up the confirmation screen.

"Now unlock the doors and tell me where your psychotic mother took my granddaughter."

Dominic checked his own phone and smiled as the massive fortune appeared in his digital wallet.

"Thank you for your generous donation, Arthur," Dominic sneered.

He casually crushed his smartphone beneath his expensive leather shoe.

"Unfortunately for you, the doors will remain locked until the backup generators run out of fuel."

"And my mother has already taken the stairs to the roof."

"A private helicopter is waiting to fly her and the baby to a country with no extradition treaty."

My heart completely shattered into a million painful pieces.

"You monster!" I sobbed, dropping to my knees on the hard floor.

Arthur did not waste another second negotiating with a madman.

He grabbed Dominic by the collar and delivered a devastating punch to his jaw.

Dominic collapsed onto the floor, completely unconscious and bleeding from his mouth.

"Marcus, blast the electronic lock on the stairwell door," Arthur ordered.

Marcus pulled a small explosive charge from his tactical vest and attached it to the heavy metal door.

"Get back!" Marcus shouted.

A deafening explosion blew the reinforced door completely off its hinges.

I forced myself up from the floor, ignoring the agonizing pain tearing through my stitches.

I ran into the stairwell behind Arthur and his elite tactical team.

We climbed five flights of stairs as fast as our legs could carry us.

The deafening roar of helicopter rotor blades echoed through the concrete walls as we reached the top floor.

We burst through the roof access door into the freezing night air.

A sleek black helicopter was hovering just a few feet above the hospital helipad.

Eleanor was standing near the open cabin door, holding my crying daughter tightly against her chest.

She smiled wickedly as she prepared to step onto the helicopter skid.

Before she could board the aircraft, a massive gust of wind from the rotors knocked her slightly off balance.

Eleanor stumbled backward toward the unprotected edge of the hospital roof.
