Chapter 6 - The Twisted Confession

Complete silence fell over the waiting room as the doctor's words sank in.

Rowan had escaped.

My mother immediately pulled out her phone and began dialing frantically.

"I need every private security contractor we have out on the streets searching for him right now!" she yelled into the receiver.

I grabbed my mother by the shoulders and shoved her hard against the hospital wall.

"If your thugs hurt one single hair on his head, I will kill you myself," I threatened fiercely.

"He has to die so your other two sons can live, Sarah!" she screamed back at me.

"The harvesting procedure for both twins will completely drain him, it is a fatal extraction."

My knees buckled, and I would have hit the floor if Mark hadn't caught my arm.

They had always planned to murder my third son to save the other two.

"I couldn't let you bear the weight of that impossible choice, Sarah," Mark said, his voice entirely devoid of remorse.

"I made the hard decision so you wouldn't have to."

I violently ripped my arm away from his grasp.

I realized I was the only person in the world who actually wanted to save Rowan's life.

I remembered the handwritten note in the birthday box and the specific way Rowan had drawn his letters.

He had drawn a tiny, highly distinct pine tree symbol next to his signature.

It was the exact same symbol carved into the wooden sign of my late father's abandoned hunting cabin up in the mountains.

Rowan had researched our family history, and he was telling me exactly where he was hiding.

I backed away from my husband and my mother, my mind racing with a desperate plan.

"I am going to the chapel to pray for my sons," I lied smoothly.

I turned and ran down the hospital corridor before they could stop me.

I burst through the emergency exit doors and sprinted toward my car in the dark parking garage.

As I fumbled with my keys, a heavy hand suddenly clamped down tightly over my mouth.
