Chapter 8 - The Infiltration

Sarah froze, the heavy canvas bag slipping from her hands and hitting the floor.
She turned slowly to look at Arthur, who was barely conscious on the gurney.
Elias quickly raised his hands, swearing that he had refused the contract immediately.
He explained that Arthur had placed the hit on her three days before he supposedly died.
Sarah felt a wave of absolute nausea wash over her.
She realized her husband hadn’t just been keeping secrets; he had viewed her as a threat.
But there was no time to demand answers from a dying man.
She strapped a kevlar vest over her ruined black funeral dress.
She loaded two magazines into a compact submachine gun and tucked a pistol into her waistband.
She instructed Elias to lock the container from the inside and keep Madison safe at all costs.
Sarah stole Elias’s old motorcycle, tearing through the city streets toward the financial district.
The sun was beginning to set, casting long, bloody shadows across the glass skyscrapers.
She arrived at the Vanguard Corporation tower, parking the bike in a dark alley.
Using the master key fob she took from Marcus, she bypassed the loading dock security.
She slipped into the sterile, brightly lit service corridors like a ghost.
She knew she only had about twenty minutes before Arthur’s heart stopped for good.
She reached the biological research floor, moving silently past the security cameras in blind spots.
She found the main laboratory vault, a massive titanium door secured by a retinal scanner.
She cursed quietly, knowing she didn’t have a clearance badge or a way to bypass biometrics.
Footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway.
Two heavily armed guards in tactical gear were conducting a routine patrol.
Sarah pressed herself into the shadows, gripping her suppressed pistol tightly.
She waited until they were perfectly aligned in her line of sight.
She fired two rapid shots, dropping both men instantly without making a sound.
She dragged their bodies to the vault, hoping one of them had access.
May you like
Then she saw the digital display on the vault door light up with a green checkmark.
The door was already unlocked.
