Chapter 6 - The Escape

The blue liquid seeped into the muddy floor, vanishing completely.
Arthur stared at the shattered glass, realizing his only chance at survival was gone.
Sarah didn’t give Marcus a chance to recover from the shock.
She sprinted forward and delivered a brutal kick to his knee, snapping the joint backward.
Marcus collapsed with a heavy thud, howling in agonizing pain.
Sarah grabbed his fallen pistol and pointed it squarely at his forehead.
She looked at him with a coldness she didn’t know she possessed.
She demanded to know if there was more of the antidote.
Marcus coughed, spitting a mixture of saliva and blood onto the dirt.
He laughed weakly, telling her the only other dose was at the firm’s downtown laboratory.
Sarah hit him across the temple with the butt of the gun, knocking him out cold.
She rushed back to Arthur, who was now completely collapsed on the ground.
His skin was turning a horrifying shade of pale grey.
He could barely move his lips, his voice a barely audible whisper.
He told her to leave him behind and go find Madison.
Sarah grabbed him by the lapels of his ruined suit and hauled him to his feet.
She told him that nobody was dying today, especially not him.
She searched Marcus’s unconscious body and found a set of heavy electronic keys.
One of them was a master override for the steel door.
She swiped the fob against the rusted keypad, and the heavy door hissed open.
They stumbled into an abandoned subway station, the tracks covered in decades of dust.
Sarah dragged Arthur up a crumbling concrete staircase toward the surface level.
They broke through an emergency exit door, stumbling into the blinding afternoon sunlight.
They were in an alleyway, two blocks away from the chapel.
A black SUV with tinted windows was idling near the dumpsters.
May you like
Sarah aimed the gun at the driver’s window, ready to fire.
The window rolled down slowly, revealing Madison sitting in the front seat.
