Chapter 9 - The Harbor King Returns

The ride to the private downtown bank was suffocatingly silent.
I sat in the dark van, my hands tied behind my back, looking at Sarah holding her crying children.
I caught her eye and gave her a slow, deliberate nod.
Before we left the estate, I had palmed a small razor blade from my tactical vest, hiding it perfectly inside my sleeve.
I carefully worked the blade down to my fingers and began slicing through the thick plastic zip-ties.
The van came to a screeching halt, and the rear doors swung open to reveal the deserted underground parking garage of the bank.
Julian stepped out of his sleek armored car, twirling the silver key around his finger.
He ordered his guards to march us up to the private VIP vault on the top floor.
As we rode the elevator up in absolute silence, the thick plastic tie around my wrists finally snapped.
I kept my hands behind my back, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
The elevator doors chimed and opened into a luxurious, heavily fortified vault room.
Julian walked over to the massive steel safe deposit box, inserted the key, and turned the lock.
He pulled out a thick ledger and a small encrypted hard drive.
Julian laughed in triumph, holding the drive up and declaring that all the offshore account passwords were finally his.
He casually turned to his lead mercenary and ordered him to shoot us all and leave our bodies in the vault.
The mercenary raised his gun, aiming it directly at little Lily.
I exploded into action.
I grabbed the mercenary's weapon, snapping his wrist with a brutal twist, and fired two shots into his chest.
Before the other guards could react, I swept their legs and disarmed them with violent, ruthless efficiency.

Julian dropped the hard drive in sheer panic and tried to run for the elevator.
I lunged forward, grabbing Julian by the collar of his expensive suit, and slammed him hard against the steel vault door.
