Chapter 10 - The Last Shadow

Julian whimpered like a coward as I pinned him against the cold steel of the vault.
He begged for his life, offering to give me back the entire empire and all his money.
I told him I didn't want his dirty money; I only wanted justice for my wife and my stolen life.
Just as Julian reached for a hidden pistol in his jacket, the elevator doors opened again.
A squad of heavily armed FBI agents rushed into the room, their weapons raised.
Vance walked in right behind them, his head bandaged but very much alive.
Vance had deliberately let himself get captured in the tunnel to buy time for his federal contacts to trace our location.
The encrypted hard drive in the vault didn't just hold bank accounts; it contained video evidence and audio recordings of Julian ordering the assassination of my wife.
The FBI agents slapped heavy iron cuffs on Julian, dragging him out of the vault as he screamed obscenities.
The nightmare was finally over.
Six months later, the winter garden was completely restored to its former glory.
I stood tall on my own two feet, leaning slightly on a carved wooden cane, watching the sunset through the glass roof.
My criminal empire had been dismantled, replaced by legitimate shipping businesses that operated entirely in the light.
Sarah walked into the garden, looking beautiful in a simple white dress, and handed me a warm cup of coffee.
Lily and Leo were running around the marble fountains, laughing freely and chasing the family dog.
I wrapped my arm around Sarah's waist, pulling her close and kissing her forehead.
We had built a new family from the ashes of betrayal, and for the first time in eight years, I was truly happy.
The Harbor King was dead, but Caleb Marino was finally alive.
Later that evening, after everyone had gone to sleep, I went down to my private study to organize some old files.
I opened the bottom drawer of my desk to place the empty silver key box away for good.
As I pressed down on the velvet lining, a secret compartment clicked open, revealing a hidden photograph.
May you like
It was a perfectly clear, date-stamped picture of my wife, Audrey, walking happily down a street in Paris.
The date printed in the bottom corner of the photograph was from yesterday.
