Chapter 7 - The Dead Wife's Secret

I stared at the heavy silver key resting in the palm of my hand.

I asked Sarah why she had a key to my wife's private banking vault.

Sarah confessed that on the night Audrey was brought into the emergency room, she was still barely conscious.

Before Dr. Aris took over the room and forced Sarah out, Audrey had slipped the key into Sarah's scrub pocket.

Audrey had whispered that her husband's life depended on keeping the key safe from Julian.

I felt a sickening knot form in my stomach as the puzzle pieces finally slammed into place.

Julian hadn't just paralyzed me to steal my empire; he had orchestrated the car crash that took my wife.

And whatever was inside that vault was the absolute proof needed to destroy him entirely.

Vance checked the perimeter cameras on his stolen tablet and cursed under his breath.

He showed me the screen, revealing two heavily armored tactical trucks smashing through the front gates.

Julian had called in a professional hit squad to finish the job immediately.

I knew my legs were not strong enough to run a long distance, and we were vastly outgunned.

I told Vance to take Sarah and the children through the underground smuggling tunnels that led to the city harbor.

Vance argued, refusing to leave my side during a firefight.

I gave him a direct order, telling him I would hold them off and meet them at the bank vault downtown.

Reluctantly, Vance nodded, leading the terrified family toward the hidden basement entrance.

I grabbed two assault rifles, walked into the center of the winter garden, and locked the glass doors.

I positioned myself behind the thick marble fountain, waiting as the tactical team surrounded the glass walls.

Lasers cut through the darkness, painting red dots across the beautiful imported trees.

Suddenly, the glass ceiling shattered under a hail of heavy gunfire.

I didn't cower or hide.

I stood up on my own two feet, raised my weapon, and pulled the trigger.
