Chapter 8 - The Kitchen Trap

David screamed in agony as the scalding coffee hit his eyes.

He dropped the gun, and it clattered loudly against the hardwood floor.

Marcus dove across the kitchen island and tackled David to the ground.

I kicked the gun far away under the refrigerator.

Richard panicked and tried to run toward the front door.

I grabbed the back of his expensive suit jacket and slammed him against the wall.

My mother stood up and began shrieking at us to stop.

She reached into her purse, desperately searching for her phone.

I snatched the purse from her hands and dumped its contents onto the floor.

Marcus successfully pinned David down and secured his hands with a heavy zip-tie from a drawer.

Richard begged for mercy, claiming he was forced into this scheme.

I ignored him and walked over to the smart-home panel on the wall.

I typed in a hidden security code that I had installed months ago.

Heavy steel security shutters instantly dropped over every window and door in the house.

The kitchen was suddenly sealed in an impenetrable fortress.

My mother looked around in absolute terror.

She demanded to know what I was doing.

I smiled at her and said I had known about Richard's betrayal for three weeks.

I pointed to a small, hidden camera embedded in the ceiling light fixture.

I told them the camera was currently broadcasting a live feed directly to the federal authorities in Portland.
