Chapter 3 - The Playground Threat

The live video showed Liam and Sophie playing safely on the swings.
I could clearly see Liam's bright red jacket and Sophie's yellow backpack.
The camera angle was from inside a vehicle parked directly across the street.
I screamed at her and asked who was filming my children.
My mother calmly retrieved her phone and slipped it back into her purse.
She said she had hired a private security firm to watch them.
She claimed she was protecting them from a very dangerous man.
Marcus grabbed his phone and immediately dialed the school's security office.
He ordered them to lock down the playground and bring the twins inside.
I slammed my hands on the table and demanded the truth.
My mother said my father did not just die bankrupt.
She revealed he had borrowed a massive amount of money from a criminal syndicate in Cleveland.
She said the dangerous debt did not die with him.
The syndicate had taken the house and was now coming for the rest of the bloodline.
She said the money on the list was the exact amount needed to pay them off.
She warned us that if we did not pay, the syndicate would take the twins.
Marcus hung up his phone and looked at me with pure terror.
The school had just confirmed a suspicious black van was parked outside the gates.
I told my mother I was calling the FBI right now.

She laughed and said the FBI could not stop what was already inside the house.
I looked down and saw a red laser dot resting perfectly on Marcus's chest.
