Chapter 10 - The Aftermath

Nadia dragged herself out of the crashed SUV, leaving a trail of dark blood on the pavement.

The wail of the police sirens grew deafening as Borel's cruisers screeched to a halt, boxing them in completely.

Officer Borel stepped out of his car, his uniform torn and stained with blood from the dockyard shootout.

He pointed his heavy weapon directly at Nadia's head, a sick smile twisting his rugged features.

"You put up a good fight, Nadia, but this is where your story ends," Borel announced triumphantly.

Leo stood bravely in front of his injured sister, refusing to let the corrupt cop take another step.

Borel cocked his weapon, entirely ready to execute them both on the steps of the federal building.

Suddenly, the massive steel doors of the FBI headquarters burst open with a loud, mechanical hum.

Dozens of heavily armed federal agents poured out onto the street, their weapons trained squarely on Borel and his men.

"Drop your weapons immediately, Borel, or you will be fired upon!" a commanding federal voice roared through a megaphone.

Borel froze, his arrogant smirk melting into absolute terror as he realized he was completely outnumbered by superior forces.

He slowly lowered his gun, falling to his knees as federal agents swarmed him and stripped him of his badge.

An FBI medical team rushed past the arresting officers, lifting Nadia onto a sterile stretcher.

As she was wheeled into the bright lights of the building, she saw Mayor Sterling being led out of a black town car in heavy handcuffs.

The national press had received a delayed backup of Leo's upload, triggering a massive federal raid on the city's corrupt administration.

Weeks later, the city was finally cleansing itself of the deep-rooted corruption that had choked it for decades.

Borel, Miller, and Mayor Sterling were all facing life sentences in a maximum-security federal prison.

Nadia had fully recovered from her gunshot wound, her bravery celebrated on every major news network across the country.

She and Leo were quietly relocated to a beautiful, sun-drenched safe house on a remote beach to relax and heal.

They spent their days walking along the shore, finally free from the shadows of fear and violence.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, the peaceful silence was broken by the sharp ring of the doorbell.

Nadia opened the front door, expecting a grocery delivery, but found no one standing on the porch.

Instead, a small, unmarked cardboard box was resting perfectly centered on the welcome mat.

She opened the box and felt her blood turn completely to ice as she stared at the contents inside.

It was her severed driver's license, taped meticulously back together, resting beside a handwritten note that read: "You missed one."
