Chapter 8 - The Gasoline

Clara looked like an absolute demon emerging directly from the flames of hell.
Her perfect hair was completely singed, and her face was twisted into a mask of pure, murderous rage.
She screamed that I had entirely ruined her beautiful life and her brilliant plans.
She charged aggressively across the burning bedroom, swinging the sharp knife wildly toward my throat.
I grabbed a wooden lamp from the nightstand and used it to block her frantic, deadly strikes.
The heavy knife bit deeply into the wood, sending sharp splinters flying completely across the room.
I kicked Clara hard in the stomach, forcing her to stumble backward into the burning doorframe.
She recovered instantly and lunged at me again, slashing a deep, painful cut across my left forearm.
I ignored the intense, searing pain and tackled her directly onto the burning mattress.
We wrestled violently for control of the deadly weapon as the ceiling above us began to crack.
I used my superior strength to pry the heavy knife from her blistering fingers and throw it entirely away.
I screamed at her that it was completely over and she had officially lost everything.
Clara suddenly stopped fighting and began to laugh a chilling, hysterical laugh that echoed over the roaring fire.
She calmly told me that the bedsheets I tied to the frame were soaked in highly flammable gasoline.
I looked in absolute horror toward the window and saw a bright trail of fire racing down the makeshift rope.
The fire was burning away my only safe exit, leaving me completely trapped in the burning room.
Clara smiled wickedly and told me she would gladly burn to death if it meant I died with her.
A massive wooden support beam suddenly snapped with a deafening crack directly above our heads.
The burning ceiling collapsed violently, burying Clara completely under hundreds of pounds of flaming debris.
I miraculously dove completely out of the way just in time, landing heavily near the broken window.
The heat in the room was absolutely unbearable, melting the skin directly off my hands.
I looked down at the concrete patio and saw Harper screaming for me to jump.
May you like
I closed my eyes, prayed silently, and threw my body entirely out of the second-story window.
I fell rapidly through the freezing night air, bracing myself for a completely devastating impact.
