Chapter 4 - The Perfect Mother

The garage door suddenly burst open as two armed police officers rushed inside.
They found me kneeling aggressively over my bleeding, screaming wife.
Clara cried out in fake terror, begging the officers to protect her from my violent rage.
I was immediately tackled to the concrete floor and placed in heavy steel handcuffs.
I desperately tried to explain that Clara had hit herself and was poisoning her daughter.
The officers completely ignored my pleas, treating me like a dangerous, unhinged criminal.
The agency worker walked into the garage holding a terrified Harper gently by the hand.
Harper looked at me with tears streaming down her pale face, her entire body shaking.
I begged Harper to tell them the truth about the hidden video and the poison.
Clara quickly intercepted, wrapping her bloody arms around her daughter in a dramatic display of fake affection.
Clara told the worker that I had caused the horrible bruises on Harper's arm.
The worker examined the distinct finger marks on the little girl's skin and glared at me with absolute disgust.
They dragged me entirely out of the garage and threw me into the back of a police cruiser.
I watched helplessly through the barred window as Clara hugged her daughter tightly.
Over Clara's shoulder, Harper looked directly at me and subtly pointed a single finger toward the roof of the house.
I realized she was giving me one final, desperate clue before they took her away.
The police transported me to the local precinct and locked me in a cold holding cell.
I sat on the metal bench for hours, agonizing over how I was going to save Harper from a literal monster.
My medical license, my freedom, and my entire life were rapidly going up in smoke.
Late that night, a tired detective finally walked up to the bars of my cell holding a thick file.
He informed me that the poison vials had indeed been found exactly where Clara said they would be.
My fingerprints were completely covering the glass, exactly as she had maliciously planned.
The detective told me I was officially being charged with attempted murder and child endangerment.
May you like
He unlocked the cell door and ordered me to stand up for my official booking photograph.
Just as I stood up, the precinct's power grid completely failed, plunging the entire building into absolute darkness.
