Chapter 7 - The Desperate Escape

I could not let that man put a bullet into my innocent son's head while he was fighting for my life.
I dove recklessly across the living room rug, grabbing the heavy rifle that the tall man had dropped earlier.
I had absolutely no idea how to properly shoot a military-grade weapon, but I knew how to swing it like a baseball bat.
I brought the heavy wooden stock of the rifle crashing down forcefully onto the shorter man's wrist.
He screamed in sharp pain, completely dropping his handgun as the bones in his arm cracked loudly under the heavy impact.
I kicked the fallen handgun as hard as I could, sending it sliding far under the living room sofa where he could not reach it.
Julian finally managed to violently shove Tyler off his chest, punching my son hard across the jaw to stun him.
Tyler fell back against the shattered television screen, dazed and bleeding slightly from a deep cut on his cheek.
Julian scrambled quickly to his feet, snatching his dropped pistol from the floor and grabbing Tyler violently by his tied hands.
"If anyone else moves, I will blow his brains out right here on the carpet," Julian screamed, completely losing his mind.
I froze instantly, dropping the heavy rifle to the floor and raising my empty hands to show I was no longer a threat.
The blindingly bright red and blue lights of the police cruisers began to aggressively flash through the front windows.
The loud, booming voice of a police negotiator echoed through a megaphone, demanding that the suspects surrender immediately.
Julian ignored the commanding voice outside, dragging a semi-conscious Tyler forcefully toward the hallway leading to the attached garage.
"Follow me, and I swear to God I will kill him," Julian threatened me one last time before disappearing around the corner.
The two injured fake cops scrambled frantically to their feet, limping heavily as they followed their boss toward the escape route.
I waited exactly three agonizing seconds before I quietly and carefully followed them down the dark, narrow hallway.
I crept silently past the kitchen, avoiding the broken glass and shattered plates that still littered the cold tile floor.
I peeked carefully around the doorframe leading into the garage, praying that Julian had not already started the getaway car.
Julian was standing near the front of a large, black armored SUV, aggressively forcing Tyler into the passenger seat.
The tall fake cop was struggling to manually open the heavy garage door because the police had already cut the main power grid.
The heavy metal door slowly began to roll upward on its tracks, revealing the dark driveway outside.
May you like
But the driveway was absolutely not empty, and the escape route was entirely blocked.
A massive, armored SWAT vehicle was parked directly outside the garage, heavily armed snipers already aiming their sights inside.
