Chapter 5 - The Uprising

Chaos erupted instantly as passengers in the front rows began screaming in sheer panic.
The body lying motionless on the floor belonged to Chloe, the menacing flight attendant who had threatened me earlier.
Valerie stood over her, a silenced pistol gripped tightly in her manicured hand, her elegant facade completely shattered.
"Nobody move a single muscle, or the next bullet goes into a random passenger!" Valerie shouted, her voice echoing through the terrified cabin.
The armed man sitting next to me cursed under his breath and began to slowly stand up.
I braced myself, expecting him to join Valerie in taking total control of the panicked passengers.
Instead, he suddenly shoved his heavy jacket into my chest and vaulted completely over our row.
"Federal Air Marshal, drop the weapon now!" he roared, sprinting up the narrow aisle with his gun raised.
Valerie did not even flinch; she simply turned and fired two muffled shots directly at him.
The Air Marshal dove behind a heavy beverage cart, the bullets tearing effortlessly through the metal siding.
Passengers threw themselves onto the floor, screaming and covering their heads as the violent shootout began.
I grabbed Mason and forced him down into the cramped space beneath the seats, covering his small body with my own.
"Close your eyes and cover your ears, Mason, do not look up!" I cried, completely terrified.
The deafening sound of gunfire filled the enclosed cabin, smelling sharply of burnt gunpowder and burning plastic.
I clutched the burner phone tightly in my sweating palm, realizing Tyler was completely alone in the cockpit with a cartel operative.
I had to do something to help my husband, even if it cost me my own life.
I quickly typed a frantic message on the burner phone: "Air Marshal is engaging Valerie in the aisle. What can I do?"
The response came through almost immediately, proving Tyler was still alive and fighting for control.
"The co-pilot is bleeding out, but he damaged the automatic locking mechanism on the door before I subdued him."
My blood ran cold as I read the final, terrifying sentence of his text message.
"Valerie is coming to breach the cockpit, and I cannot fly this plane and hold the door shut at the same time."
I looked up through the gap in the seats and saw Valerie slowly advancing toward the front, pinning the Air Marshal down with suppressive fire.
If she got through that broken door, Tyler would be executed, and the cartel would completely control the aircraft.
I kissed Mason's forehead, silently praying for forgiveness, and slowly crawled out from under the seats into the aisle.
I reached into my oversized purse, my fingers wrapping tightly around a heavy, glass bottle of duty-free perfume I had bought earlier.

I stood up right behind Valerie, my heart pounding in my ears as I raised the heavy glass bottle high above my head.
Suddenly, the airplane violently pitched completely sideways, throwing me effortlessly across the aisle and directly into the cabin wall.
