Chapter 7 - The Final Trap

Daniel stood on the tarmac, holding the metal briefcase containing his own damnation.

He wore a federal windbreaker, looking perfectly comfortable in the center of his elaborate, terrifying trap.

“Did you really think Olivia’s pathetic ex-boyfriend wouldn't call me for a million-dollar bounty?” Daniel mocked, laughing loudly over the helicopter rotors.

I turned around to run, but three heavily armed mercenaries stepped out from the shadows of the nearby hangars.

They surrounded us completely, raising their assault rifles with chilling, professional precision.

Sarah shoved Olivia behind her, trying to shield her younger sister from the inevitable gunfire.

“You really outdid yourself this time, Daniel,” a cold, familiar voice echoed across the runway.

Evelyn stepped gracefully out of the black helicopter, holding a crystal glass of champagne.

“I told you she was too stubborn to simply die in a hospital bed,” Evelyn sneered, taking a delicate sip.

Daniel walked toward me, his eyes devoid of any human empathy or remorse.

“It is such a tragedy, Claire,” Daniel said, tracing the cold barrel of a pistol down my cheek.

“A grieving mother kidnaps her husband's assistant out of sheer jealousy, only for the sister to shoot everyone in a psychotic rage.”

He pressed the gun firmly into Sarah’s hand, forcing her fingers around the grip.

“And then, tragically, the sister turns the weapon on herself before the police can arrive,” Daniel concluded.

It was the perfect, airtight narrative to tie up every loose end and secure his twenty million dollars.

Evelyn checked her diamond-encrusted wristwatch with an air of complete boredom.

“Let’s wrap this up quickly, Daniel, the humidity out here is ruining my hair,” Evelyn complained.

Daniel stepped back and raised a secondary, silenced pistol, aiming it directly at my chest.

I closed my eyes, bracing for the agonizing impact that would finally reunite me with my lost baby.

“Any last words, my darling wife?” Daniel whispered, his finger tightening on the trigger.

“Just one,” I replied, opening my eyes to glare at him with absolute defiance.

“Duck.”

A blindingly bright spotlight suddenly illuminated the entire runway from the dark sky above us.

A massive, armored SWAT truck smashed violently through the chain-link fence, hurtling directly toward Daniel.
