Chapter 6 - The Deadly Ultimatum

“Did you really think I would not tap your sister’s phone, Sarah?” Ryan asked with a cruel smirk.
I backed away slowly, my bare feet freezing against the icy pavement of the alley.
“Where is my son, Ryan?” I demanded, completely ignoring the gun pointed at my heart.
“He is safe at home with my mother, learning how to be a quiet, obedient boy,” he replied smoothly.
“You are a monster, and you will rot in hell for what you did to Ethan,” I spat at him.
He chuckled darkly and took a threatening step closer to me.
“Ethan was weak, but I still have hope that Noah can be trained properly.”
He pulled a pair of heavy steel zip ties from his jacket pocket and threw them at my feet.
“Bind your own wrists, Sarah, or I will shoot you right here and claim self-defense against a crazy escapee.”
I looked frantically down the dark street, hoping to see Emily’s black car, but the road was completely empty.
Ryan had likely intercepted her or scared her away before I even made it outside.
I slowly bent down and picked up the zip ties, pretending to comply with his demands.
As I knelt on the pavement, my fingers brushed against a heavy, jagged brick resting near a drainage grate.
“Hurry up, we have a long drive ahead of us,” Ryan snapped impatiently.
I looped one end of the plastic tie around my left wrist, keeping the heavy brick concealed behind my leg.
“Why do you let her control you like this?” I asked loudly, trying to distract him.
“My mother protects our family, and you are a threat to that protection,” he answered coldly.
With a sudden surge of adrenaline, I hurled the heavy brick directly at his face.
The brick smashed into his nose with a sickening crunch, causing his gun to discharge wildly into the air.
Ryan screamed in agony, clutching his bleeding face as he dropped the weapon.
I lunged forward, kicking the pistol straight into the deep storm drain.
I did not wait for him to recover, sprinting blindly down the dark alleyway toward the main street.
I heard him roaring my name in absolute fury behind me, his heavy footsteps slapping against the wet pavement.
I turned the corner and ran straight into the middle of the busy intersection, waving my arms frantically.
A massive delivery truck slammed on its brakes, the tires squealing loudly as it skidded to a halt just inches from me.
The driver threw his door open, looking completely terrified.

“Call the police, my husband is trying to kill me!” I screamed, jumping into the passenger seat.
The driver locked the doors just as Ryan burst out of the alley, his face covered entirely in dark blood.
