Chapter 4 - The Asylum Lie

I woke up groggy and disoriented, staring at a blinding white ceiling.
My arms were strapped tightly to the rails of a narrow hospital bed.
I tried to speak, but my mouth was incredibly dry and tasted heavily of harsh chemicals.
A woman in a white coat walked into the room, holding a plastic medical clipboard.
“Good morning, Sarah, I am Doctor Evans,” she said with a sympathetic but professional smile.
“Where is my baby?” I rasped, pulling desperately against the thick leather restraints.
“Your husband brought you to our psychiatric facility early this morning,” the doctor explained gently.
“He told us that you suffered a severe postpartum psychotic break and tried to drown your son in the bathtub.”
I stared at her in absolute disbelief as the sheer evil of Ryan’s plan washed over me.
He was framing me for the exact crime his mother had committed five years ago.
“You have to believe me, my husband is lying to cover up a murder,” I pleaded frantically.
Doctor Evans sighed heavily and jotted a note down on her clipboard.
“Paranoia and false accusations are very common symptoms of postpartum psychosis, Sarah.”
“Call the police and tell them to check the mahogany desk in my living room,” I begged her.
“Your husband already warned us that you would invent elaborate stories to shift the blame.”
She pulled a small remote from her pocket and turned on a television mounted to the wall.
“Ryan provided us with footage from your nursery camera to prove his claims,” she said.
The screen flickered to life, showing a grainy black and white video of Noah’s room.
I watched in horror as a woman wearing my exact bathrobe walked over to the crib.
The woman held a thick pillow over Noah’s face for several agonizing seconds before casually walking away.
The timestamp on the video was from last night, right around the time I was knocked out.
Linda had worn my clothes to stage a murder attempt on camera.
“That is his mother wearing my robe, you cannot possibly believe this,” I screamed at the television.
“We are keeping you on a mandatory psychiatric hold for your own safety and the safety of your child,” the doctor finalized.

She turned off the television and walked out of the room, locking the heavy steel door behind her.
I was completely trapped in a mental hospital while my son was left alone with two murderers.
