Chapter 8 - The Burning Empire

Margaret casually ordered her armed men to forcefully take the black flash drive from my trembling hands.
She laughed cruelly, openly mocking my pathetic attempt to outsmart the woman who controlled the entire city.
She proudly confessed that she had intentionally framed Michael because he had discovered her massive illegal gambling debts.
She admitted that she had ordered the hit on his car to protect her reputation and secure his lucrative life insurance policy.
She pointed the silver handgun closer to my face and promised to shoot me right here, claiming I was an armed intruder.
I slowly backed away from the barrel, my heart pounding so loudly I thought it might completely burst from my chest.
Suddenly, the large window behind Margaret shattered violently as Marcus swung into the room attached to a tactical rope.
He immediately kicked the handgun completely out of Margaret's hand and drew his own federal service weapon.
He loudly declared that he was an undercover federal agent and that the entire mansion was currently surrounded by the FBI.
Margaret's armed guards instantly dropped their tactical rifles and surrendered, entirely unwilling to die for their corrupt boss.
Margaret realized her entire criminal empire was completely collapsing right in front of her eyes.
She let out a feral scream of pure, unadulterated rage and violently lunged toward her heavy mahogany desk.
She aggressively slammed her palm onto a hidden red panic button concealed beneath the polished wood.
The emergency system did not summon more security guards as I had terrifiedly expected.
Instead, heavy steel security shutters immediately violently slammed down over the windows and the only bedroom door.
A computerized voice echoed through the ceiling, announcing that the emergency fire protocol had been fully activated.
Highly flammable chemical accelerants began spraying rapidly from the ceiling vents directly onto the expensive furniture and carpets.
Margaret smiled with absolute insanity, declaring that if she was going to lose her empire, she was going to burn all the evidence with it.

She pulled a silver lighter from her pocket and tossed it directly into the massive puddle of highly flammable chemicals.
A massive wall of bright orange flames violently erupted between us, instantly setting the entire bedroom completely on fire.
