Chapter 2 - The New Landlord

I collapsed onto my knees in the center of the empty bedroom while frantically screaming my daughters' names.
Footsteps thundered down the hallway before Richard burst into the room with two of Margaret's security guards hot on his heels.
He saw the open window and immediately rushed to my side to pull me up from the floor.
Margaret sauntered into the room a moment later with a deeply sinister smile playing on her lips.
She casually adjusted her diamond necklace and proudly announced that she had anticipated my little rebellion.
She explained that her loyal personal assistant had quietly relocated the girls to an undisclosed and highly secure location.
She coldly threatened that if I tried to leave the estate, she would immediately call Child Protective Services.
She promised to use all her immense wealth to prove I was an unstable, impoverished widow who was entirely unfit to be a mother.
I felt all the blood drain completely from my face as I realized she had trapped me once again.
I turned to Richard and desperately begged him to help me find my stolen children.
Richard did not look panicked or intimidated by Margaret's cruel and calculated blackmail.
Instead, he slowly pulled a folded legal document from the inner pocket of his expensive suit jacket.
He walked calmly toward Margaret and pressed the heavy parchment directly against her chest.
He quietly advised her to read the official signature on the bottom of the banking transfer form.
Margaret snatched the paper aggressively and scanned the bold black ink.
Her smug and confident expression instantly vanished as a look of absolute horror washed over her pale face.
She gasped loudly and stumbled backward until her back hit the bedroom wall.
Richard smoothly explained that he had secretly purchased the massive, overdue mortgage of the Whitmore estate from her private bank just twenty minutes ago.

He leaned in close to her ear and spoke with a dangerously quiet authority.
He informed her that she was currently standing in his house, and he was giving her exactly sixty seconds to return his guests before he threw her out onto the street.
