Chapter 7 - The Desperate Heist

We had less than exactly three hours to prepare for the most dangerous night of my entire life.

Richard provided me with a breathtaking emerald evening gown and a delicate lace masquerade mask to completely conceal my identity.

He introduced me to a tall, heavily muscular man named Marcus who would act as my fake husband for the dangerous evening.

Marcus was quietly revealed to be an elite undercover FBI agent whom Richard had personally hired to handle the physical security.

We pulled up to the glittering Whitmore estate in a rented luxury sports car, easily blending in with the arrogant, wealthy crowd.

My heart hammered violently against my ribs as we confidently walked past the armed guards stationed at the grand entrance.

The mansion was completely overflowing with loud classical music, expensive champagne, and completely oblivious billionaires.

Marcus firmly held my arm and expertly guided me away from the crowded ballroom toward the quiet, heavily guarded west wing.

He smoothly distracted the single guard standing outside the jewelry vault by claiming a wealthy guest had collapsed in the hallway.

The moment the guard ran away, I quickly slipped my specialized magnetic keycard into the vault's digital reader.

The heavy door clicked open, and I rushed inside to frantically search the illuminated glass display cases.

I finally spotted my mother's beautiful silver pendant resting arrogantly on a velvet cushion.

I smashed the fragile glass with a heavy brass paperweight and snatched the necklace with trembling hands.

I immediately sprinted out of the vault and hurried up the back servant staircase toward Margaret's private master suite.

I rushed into her dark bedroom, pushed aside the heavy oil painting, and jammed the silver pendant directly into the hidden wall safe.

The heavy steel door swung open, revealing the small black flash drive resting perfectly inside.

I grabbed the ultimate proof of my husband's innocence and let out a massive sigh of profound relief.

Suddenly, the heavy bedroom door slammed shut, and the bright overhead lights violently flickered on.

Margaret stood proudly by the door, completely flanked by two massive men holding heavy tactical rifles.

She pointed a small, silver handgun directly at my chest and smiled with absolute, terrifying malice.

She calmly stated that she knew exactly who I was the moment I walked through the front door.
