Chapter 8 - The Hallway Showdown

Richard and Evelyn sprinted down the sterile hospital hallway to block the surgical team from reaching the elevator doors.

My father raised his voice, demanding that the nurses halt the transport because he was officially revoking my medical consent.

He boldly lied to the surgical staff, claiming that my heart was far too weak to survive the anesthesia and that I needed hospice care instead.

The young nurses hesitated for a fraction of a second, intimidated by his aggressive, wealthy appearance and commanding tone.

Sterling stepped smoothly out from behind my moving bed, placing his massive frame directly between my toxic parents and the medical team.

He reached into his tailored suit jacket and pulled out a stack of legally binding, federally stamped court injunctions.

He shoved the heavy documents forcefully against my father's chest, ordering him to step aside or face immediate federal imprisonment.

Evelyn screamed hysterically, threatening to sue the entire hospital and destroy Sterling's life for interfering with her family.

Sterling leaned down close to my mother's face and calmly informed her that the FBI was currently raiding her Oak Brook mansion.

He revealed that he had forwarded all the evidence of her attempted murder, extortion, and cyber crimes directly to the District Attorney.

My mother's arrogant, wicked face completely crumbled into a mask of pure, absolute terror as the reality of her situation finally hit her.

Richard tried to throw a desperate punch at Sterling's jaw, completely losing his mind as his empire of greed collapsed around him.

Sterling effortlessly caught my father's fist mid-air and twisted his arm just enough to force him to his knees in the middle of the hallway.

The entire hospital staff and dozens of patients watched in stunned silence as my wealthy, abusive parents were publicly humiliated and broken.

I looked down at them from my surgical bed, feeling absolutely no pity or remorse for the monsters who had tortured me for years.

I smiled a bright, victorious smile and told them to enjoy their long, miserable sentences in federal prison.

Sterling motioned for the nurses to continue, and they quickly rolled my bed into the waiting elevator, leaving my screaming parents behind forever.

The elevator doors closed, shutting out the noise and chaos of my past, and delivering me to the sterile, quiet sanctuary of the surgical wing.

I was finally going to get my new kidney, claim my massive inheritance, and live a beautiful, peaceful life far away from Chicago.
