Chapter 3 - The Medical Proxy

I stared at the closed door for an hour, my entire body trembling with a mixture of absolute rage and suffocating fear.

My own father had bribed the lead detective to destroy the evidence and cover up my mother's vicious assault.

The heavy door slowly creaked open again, and my three family members walked back into my private recovery suite.

Evelyn was holding the exact same manila folder containing the bank transfer documents for my life savings.

Richard locked the deadbolt on the hospital door and closed the window blinds to ensure nobody could see inside the room.

Connor smiled arrogantly and unplugged the nurse-call button from the wall socket, entirely isolating me from the outside world.

My mother stepped up to my bedside and slammed the folder down onto my chest with brutal force.

She pulled a black ink pen from her designer purse and forced it violently into my trembling right hand.

She whispered that the doctors had prescribed a very strong dose of liquid morphine to manage the pain from my head wound.

She casually reached over to my intravenous drip and clamped the plastic tubing tightly shut with her fingers.

She told me that I was going to suffer in agonizing, unimaginable pain until I signed the two hundred and fifty thousand dollars over to Connor.

A wave of blinding agony washed over my skull as the pain medication completely stopped flowing into my bloodstream.

I gasped for air, begging my father to stop her, but he simply turned his back and stared at the blank wall.

I realized that they were perfectly willing to torture me to death in a hospital bed just to fund my brother's ridiculous vanity project.

Just as my vision began to blur from the sheer intensity of the pain, a loud, authoritative knock echoed from the locked door.

Richard cursed under his breath and quickly moved to unlock the deadbolt before anyone grew suspicious.

A young, sharply dressed medical intern wearing a crisp white coat pushed his way aggressively into the room.

He took one look at my mother's hand clamping the IV line and instantly realized exactly what was happening.

He slapped her hand away with brutal efficiency and immediately unclamped the plastic tubing to restore the flow of medication.

Evelyn screamed in outrage, demanding to know who he was and threatening to have his medical license permanently revoked.

The young man ignored her completely, picking up the bank transfer documents from my chest and ripping them cleanly in half.

He turned to my furious family and introduced himself calmly as Doctor Julian Vance.

Julian looked my mother directly in the eyes and ordered her to leave the premises immediately or he would contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Richard laughed arrogantly, claiming that he had full legal control over my medical decisions because I was incapacitated.

Julian smiled a dangerous, calculating smile and pulled a notarized legal document from his pristine clipboard.

He informed my father that I was no longer under their legal control, because he was now my legally appointed medical proxy.
