Chapter 1 - The Locked Doors

The heavy wooden doors of the courtroom shut with a resounding thud.
The bailiff turned the brass deadbolt, sealing us securely inside.
Richard leaped from his leather chair, his face flushed with sudden, undeniable panic.
He pointed a trembling finger at me, shouting that I was staging a theatrical stunt to manipulate the law.
The judge slammed her gavel so hard the sound cracked through the tense air like a gunshot.
She ordered Richard to sit down and remain completely silent.
My attorney, Arthur Collins, stepped forward and handed the judge a sealed envelope.
Inside were the genuine medical records my husband had spent thousands of dollars trying to permanently destroy.
The documents detailed every single emergency room visit, broken bone, and laceration he had inflicted upon me over the past five years.
Richard’s expensive legal team began frantically whispering among themselves, realizing their client had lied to them.
Chloe, the mistress who had been smirking just moments before, slowly pulled her hand away from Richard’s grasp.
She looked at my scarred chest and then at the furious judge, suddenly understanding the terrifying reality of the man she was sitting beside.
The judge reviewed the authentic documents, her expression hardening into absolute disgust.
She looked directly at Richard and announced that she was holding him in contempt of court pending an immediate criminal investigation.
Richard lunged toward the defense table, desperate to grab the files.
Before he could reach them, the courtroom doors violently burst open, splintering the heavy wood frame.
Three armed federal agents stormed into the room with their weapons drawn.

But they did not walk toward my abusive husband.
The lead agent marched straight toward me, pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs, and told me I was under arrest for orchestrating a multi-million dollar corporate fraud scheme.
